Project Description
Bronson supported NRCan with end-to-end analytics and dashboard development to turn complex geospatial datasets into actionable insights for energy-use planning.
Through a call-up under a federal standing offer, Bronson provided two resources to lead a data visualization and data conversion project for the Office of Energy Efficiency. The objective: empower NRCan teams with tools to analyze location-based energy usage across Canada’s regions using demographic, socio-economic, and geospatial data.
Bronson’s approach combined technical expertise in Tableau, Alteryx, and Python with an emphasis on user enablement, ensuring not just delivery — but adoption — of high-impact analytics products across internal teams.
Business Challenge
NRCan’s Office of Energy Efficiency manages vast datasets related to household energy usage across Canada. However, raw data from internal systems and third-party sources — like Environics PRIZM — required significant transformation before it could be leveraged for timely program decisions.
To address this, NRCan needed:
- A unified analytics environment to merge diverse internal and external data.
- Automated ETL workflows to reduce manual cleaning and transformation.
- Dashboards that enabled territorial and provincial segmentation and geospatial comparisons.
- Training and documentation to support sustainable analytics use across departments.
This project needed to bridge sophisticated data science with intuitive tools that support policy and program planning.
Our Solution and Outcome
Bronson provided full lifecycle analytics services — spanning data integration, visualization, and adoption. Working closely with NRCan teams, Bronson’s consultants ensured that technical and business needs remained aligned throughout delivery.
Key services included:
- Data Acquisition & Integration – Merged internal datasets with third-party demographic and geospatial sources.
- Automated Preparation – Used Alteryx, Tableau Prep, and Python to ingest, clean, and transform complex datasets at scale.
- Geospatial Dashboards – Developed dynamic, interactive Tableau dashboards for regional comparisons and segmentation analysis.
- Quality Control – Implemented QA processes to maintain accuracy, consistency, and functionality of analytics outputs.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Managed delivery workflows and facilitated feedback with continuous communication.
- User Enablement – Developed user guides and conducted tailored training sessions to improve adoption and long-term data literacy.
Bronson’s work enabled NRCan to modernize and streamline its data analytics capabilities. With high-quality dashboards and automated data pipelines, NRCan teams can now:
- Analyze energy-use patterns with regional precision.
- Compare demographic and socio-economic segments efficiently.
- Make program planning decisions with confidence and accuracy.
- Maintain long-term analytics capacity through team enablement and clear documentation.
