Project Description
Bronson partnered with Natural Resources Canada to update the 2024 ENERGY STAR Canada Brand Book, the national reference for logo usage, branding, and communication standards across the ENERGY STAR programs. Through a collaborative, design-forward approach, we ensured that the Brand Book is a clear, accessible, and authoritative guide for both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Business Challenge
ENERGY STAR is one of the most trusted environmental certification programs in Canada. To maintain credibility and consistency, NRCan required a refreshed Brand Book that clearly communicated logo and brand usage guidelines distinct from the U.S. EPA version, while also reflecting Canadian context, bilingual requirements, and program-specific needs. The challenge was to balance clarity, accessibility, and design excellence to support program teams and partners across sectors.
Our Solution and Outcome
Bronson adopted a collaborative and iterative approach to developing the updated Brand Book. We created multiple drafts, incorporating feedback at each stage from the four ENERGY STAR program areas, namely ENERGY STAR for Products, ENERGY STAR for Buildings, ENERGY STAR for New Homes, and ENERGY STAR for Industry, and the Project Authority to ensure the final product reflected the needs and expectations of all stakeholders. Bronson also produced a presentation deck for NRCan management that highlighted areas of change and to ensure alignment. This process allowed us to refine both content and design, ensuring the Brand Book evolved into a practical, trusted resource.
A distinctly Canadian focus guided the project. We accounted for Canada’s bilingual requirements, intellectual property laws, and unique program structures, while tailoring guidelines to reflect the realities of Canadian industries and audiences. By providing clear and consistent instructions, the Brand Book became a “one-stop shop” resource that helps maintain brand integrity across diverse contexts.
Finally, Bronson delivered a polished, professional design that balanced functionality with visual appeal. Using Adobe InDesign, we produced a cohesive, easy-to-navigate Brand Book. The updated Brand Book equipped ENERGY STAR Canada with the tools to maintain a strong, recognizable identity across all program areas and to external stakeholders and participants.
