Project Description
Bronson is providing Business Intelligence (BI) and Analytic Platform Software to help modernize Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s analytics and reporting capabilities to meet the needs of the entire organization.
In Phase 1 of this project (covering the period June 2019), Bronson completed the following tasks on behalf of Saskatchewan Polytechnic (SaskPoly):
- Implementation, including implementation support services of a Tableau Server at SaskPoly’s Saskatoon campus;
- Implementation and set-up of an AWS hosting server;
- Implementation services for setup of Single Sign On (SAML) and Tableau Server Active Directory (AD) Integration with SaskPoly IT environment;
- Delivery of classroom training for both Tableau admin/server users and Tableau creator users; and
- Project management to ensure phase 1 was completed on budget and on schedule and to ensure the client was fully apprised of progress and any related challenges.
During Phase 2 (July 2019 to June 2022), Bronson has been retained to perform the following services for SaskPoly on an as-needed basis.
Analytics/BI consulting services including:
- Developing data connectors, API’s or database queries;
- Developing Tableau dashboards;
- Developing Alteryx or Tableau Prep workflows;
- Developing advanced analytics strategies that turn data assets and analytic capabilities into competitive advantage;
- Deploying advanced analytics for decision support to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency, and testing the results of your customer-facing strategies;
- Building internal advanced analytics capabilities, embedding the capabilities needed to execute Big Data and analytics strategies consistently while also addressing the change management issues that naturally arise; and
- Building a data warehouse(s) as required.
- Training services including in-person or remote training and preparation of training material.
Software support and maintenance services including:

- Working with in-house IT to open up ports, do Firewall configuration, DNS configuration, and Single Sign On (SSO) configuration;
- Updating Tableau server depending on new functionality available;
- Running helpdesk through use of Atlassians Jira and interfacing with SaskPoly helpdesk; and
- Managing Level 1 and Level 2 support requests according to prescribed service standards.
Administrative support including:

- Directing or coordinating the supportive services for the project; and
- Directing administrative or support services.
Project management services including:

- Managing the project and project team on a day to day basis;
- Planning and controlling the project;
- Achieving the defined project objectives;
- Creating the project schedule and defining tasks, in addition to monitoring and tracking time and status of scheduled tasks;
- Escalating project issues to the appropriate levels;
- Reviewing proposed changes and assessing their impact on the project costs and schedule;
- Maintaining the risk/issues log;
- Scheduling and conducting status meetings;
- Tracking budget to actual level of effort; and
- Creating bespoke reports on performance related to the contract or time spent on task.
Business Challenge
Saskatchewan Polytechnic needed to modernize its analytics and reporting capabilities to meet organizational needs. This required implementing a robust BI and analytic platform and ensuring ongoing support, training, and project management to fully integrate and utilize the new system.
Our Solution and Outcome
In Phase 1, Bronson implemented a Tableau Server and set up an AWS hosting server, integrating Single Sign-On (SAML) and Active Directory with the existing IT environment. They provided classroom training for Tableau admin/server and creator users and managed the project to ensure it was on budget and schedule.
During Phase 2, from July 2019 to June 2022, Bronson provided on-demand analytics/BI consulting services, developing data connectors, dashboards, and advanced analytics strategies. They also offered training services, software support and maintenance, including firewall and DNS configuration, and managed support requests via Jira. Additionally, Bronson provided comprehensive project management services, overseeing the project from initiation to completion, ensuring the defined objectives were met, and managing risks, issues, and budget tracking.
The outcome was a modernized, effective analytics and reporting capability for Saskatchewan Polytechnic, enhancing operational efficiency and decision support.
