Tableau’s Iron Viz competition is an annual data visualization contest that draws in Tableau users from all over the globe to compete for the Iron Viz Championship. The participants are given a particular theme or dataset from which they must create innovative visualizations that showcase their skills and creativity. The competition consists of three rounds: a qualifier round, a semi-final round, and a final round that is held at Tableau’s annual conference.
The Iron Viz competition provides an opportunity for participants to display their data visualization skills while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with Tableau. Each round presents a unique theme and dataset that challenges contestants to approach data from different perspectives and create compelling visualizations that convey a story.
The finalists selected for the final round of the Iron Viz competition showcase their visualization skills, creativity, and storytelling abilities to the judges. The judges evaluate the effectiveness of the visualization in communicating insights and telling a story before determining the winner of the Iron Viz Championship.
In the most recent Iron Viz competition, under the theme ‘games’, three finalists, Brittany Rosenau, Nirosh Perera, and Paul Ross, were chosen to compete for the championship title. Brittany’s visualization explored the Spiel des Jahres board game competition, Nirosh created a dashboard to help describe stats between two iconic tennis greats, and Paul’s visualization generated his personalized “list of awesome games”.
Winning the Iron Viz Championship is a coveted title and serves as a testament to the power of data visualization in communicating insights.
